e-readers

According to Amazon, ebook sales have already surpassed hardback book sales and have surpassed both hardback and paperback combined.
An e-book reader, also called an e-book device or e-reader, is an electronic device that is designed primarily for the purpose of reading digital books and periodicals and frequently uses e-ink technology to display content to readers. The main advantages of these devices are portability, readability of their screens in bright sunlight, and long battery life.
Note: e-Readers have been usurped by tablets
with the Kindle Fire and the Barnes and Noble Nook, the old e-readers will become history. The remaining benefit is "e-ink", which makes reading easier, especially in sunlight. As soon as the Kindel Nook and Amazon's Fire have these, the older e-readers will start to disappear. However, until the inventory is gone, they will still be around.
See this attached article for a good review. Top 10 best e-readers
Kindle Connects to Library E-Books 9/21/11
eBook lending: Libraries go digital 10/26/11
Interesting article, as my library still doesn't have e-Books.
Also: The system’s e-books are provided through OverDrive, a subscription-based third-party company that distributes e-books. Because of restrictions placed on what can be downloaded to one of the most popular e-readers, Amazon’s Kindle, patrons can’t use those devices to access books through the OverDrive system.
e-book complexity new
Look at the variety of ways to load OverDrive (used by E-Book Lending libraries), and it gives you an idea, of the current problem that libraries have with e-book lending! I guess it will be awhile, before my Kindle will become worthwhile!
Once you get used to shopping at Amazon, you can sort by price, category, etc. There is a lot here!
Kindle Fire and Barnes and Noble Nook Tablets
The old fashion e-readers have grown up, to compete with the iPad! These are good e-readers, can do color magazines, show movies and do the internet, at a modest cost!
Free Kindle Books, reviews, etc
Google e-books, includes free e-books!
Note: I just used my wife's Droid to read a free book, while at a Doctors office, (my Kindle battery was dead...duh!) It wasn't bad at all! Almost as comfortable as a Kindle, and certainly readily available! Though, I have to admit, my Kindle doesn't ring! Norm 12-9-11
