Microsoft gets it right with Windows 8 on ARM, and why Apple should be worried
Windows 7has moved into the fore-front over the venerable XP. Why, you might ask?
- New PC's typically come with Windows 7. As our PC's age, they become slower, and the new computers are faster, slicker and have new bells and whistles!
- Windows 7 is more secure, against infections. Microsoft built Windows 7 with security in mind. The base platform is more secure, that the NT design, which is the under-pinning of Windows NT,2000 and XP.
- Windows 7 is faster. With the 64 bit design, you can use more memory. Today's programs are larger and more powerful, and require more memory. These programs will run slower on XP.
- Windows 7 is prettier. The graphics is better. You do not have be an expert to notice the "Eye Candy" in Windows 7.
I was showing my wife the new desktop background I had, and she was impressed with how nice my computer looked! She saw the 22 inch Wide Screen monitor, displaying the new desktop background, on the monitor I gave her, and she gave it back(when she had XP), because it made everybody look "too fat!"
With Windows 7, the graphic is better, because Wide screen monitors are the standard now, so you don't need to make adjustments to handle pictures on a wide screen, as you had to with XP.
So, my website is moving with the times! Even us Computer Novices, are getting with the program, and moving to Windows 7.More than half my customers have made the move now, rather then spending the money on repairs. The price for a new PC is very reasonable, and for all the reasons above, its' time to make the move!
I'm still recommending that whatever you have now......"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" But, if you need to buy another computer, go with confidence to Windows 7. More people are realizing, that now is the time, and frequently, I recommend the change. I don't want my customers to spend money on repairs, when a new PC is more cost effective, even though it may cost me revenue!
I have upgraded my main computer now, and I've found usability features that I like. I have done a stand-alone version, so I can test my business desktop with Windows 7. I used an upgrade version, and will give you reports. It was a straight forward install, and runs Microsoft Office 2003 well. Performance is good with 2 GB memory. I am using 4 GB, and it performs better than 2GB. I am using Windows 7 64 bit, which can handle a lot more memory. Unfortunately, I did not choose Ultimate, which provides XP Mode, so I have to run my Quickbooks (older edition) on another XP computer. My alternative is to buy a newer version of Quickbooks, but I'm too cheap!
Note on XP Mode: I installed XP Mode for a customer, trying to save money on an expensive application. XP Mode crashed 3 times (attempted fixes. etc, no avail) Had to buy expensive version of product, designed for Windows 7. Norm Jul 2011

View this video, and get a good overview of Windows 7. I've been using Windows 7 for almost a year, and I really like it.
If you are thinking of upgrading to Windows 7
Windows 7 Upgrades are much cheaper than the full edition. In the past I was always leery of upgrades, and would rather load a fresh copy. But with hard drive space being much more available, and the price difference consideration between Upgrades and Full Edition, I recommend using the upgrade, if you can.
Windows 7 Licensing Explained, and find the cheapest way to get Windows 7!
This is a long analysis, and very "wordy". Bottom line, most will save money with an upgrade, as mentioned above.

Windows 7 Less Secure than Vista - This is a true statement about Windows 7. Overall security is good, but make sure that you have antivirus software. Microsoft Security Essentials is very good and free. Hopefully Microsoft will make some changes on Windows 7 to reinstate these warnings.
