Outlook-Express-wont-open-Internet-Explorer

Question:

When I click on links in my email (Outlook Express), I can't get Internet Explorer to open the page. The links are underlined and blue, so why won't they work?

Answer:

If you click a link and it either doesn't come up, or you get an empty browser window with no connection, there are two common possibilities.

1. If you have a pop-up stopper, this can interfere with a browser window coming up, especially if you already have one open.

2. Now, in your Internet Explorer browser, you should make sure that you have IE set as your default browser.

Internet Explorer 7

IE7 Browser-Default

and select the" Programs " tab. Make sure the message "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" is selected.

IE Tools - Internet Options

If not, then check it. Press OK and close Internet Explorer. Now the link in your email should bring up a website.

Note: If you are in a document and click a hyperlink but nothing happens, try holding down Control and clicking the link.

This should open the link in your browser.

Internet Explorer 9

To do this, start Internet Explorer then click on the "Gear" symbol (upper right hand corner)

Internet Explorer - Gear symbol

then you get a drop-down box:

IE8-Internet Explorer options

IE9-Internet-Browser-default

Note: With IE 8, if you have difficulty seeing you top toolbar ( File - Edit - View - Favorites - Tools ), as I did, try this, I move my mouse along top edge, then left clicked, where I thought Internet Options would be, then it showed up! (see below - in red circle!)
