No-Video

No Video - PC has power - but No-Video(Display is blank or dark!) This could mean its totally dead, or it could just mean that you can't see what it is doing! Now, we gotta figure which it is, and then what to do!

Blank Screen

PC has power - but No-Video(Display is blank or dark!)

Note: This whole process is well beyond a novice PC user, and you may need professional help.

1. If the system unit has power, but will not boot up, then you need to try to see if it will boot in safe mode. click to learn about Safe Mode

safe mode

If it boots in safe mode and has video, then we have the good possibilty of bad video drivers, and a possibilty of a bad Windows load

2. Look for video driver disk provided by manufacturer, and reload video drivers.

Note: If you can't find your video drivers, then click XP-Drivers.html

3. Next, let's re-seat memory, or replace memory. (To do this, you will need to open the computer, and look for the memory "sticks", remove and re-install. which is called re-seating)

replace memory

4. Check video cable for bent pins.

video connectors

5. Swap out video card ( if video is on motherboard, you may be able to install A PCI video or AGP video, if slot is available. Note: Most of you do not have a video card available, so call for support, run to Staples or Best Buy - plan to spend $ 100 or more or go to Video Cards from Amazon. Basic video cards are available for $30 on up. Go to Video Cards for a better understanding.

6. Try another monitor (even though there is power to the monitor, it could be bad)

Are there more possibilities?

yes, bad motherboard, flash BIOS, cable shorts, etc. But, for all of these you need professional level technical help! ........ See Computer Support
