Infected-Computer

Computer Security

This website has extensive additional information on malware, viruses, etc.

    PC Virus
    • If you suspect that have an Infected-Computer, remove your computer from your network, as well as from the Internet, so that you don't inadvertently spread the bug to others. Unplug your network cable if necessary.
    •

    • If you have Anti-virus- software installed, run it.

Note: See below ** if your Anti-Virus is crippled!

    • If you don't have anti-virus software, you'll need to obtain some. Download it from an uninfected computer, you can purchase it from a retailer. I usually use Microsoft Secuity Essentials, which is free.
    •

    • Start your Infected-Computer (still not connected to a network) and follow the instructions that came with the anti-virus software.
    • Keep running the virus-scanning software until your computer comes up clean.
    • Reconnect your computer to the Internet and check with the anti-virus software's publisher to make sure you have the latest updates. If not, download them now.
    • After updating the anti-virus software, run it again until your computer comes up clean.

Note: If your system is infected, do not use the restore process, until you are reasonably certain that the virus has been removed. Many times, the Trojan Horses have hidden in the Restore files. I typically clear out the restore files, when I suspect an infection problem.

The system restore utility can be accessed in Safe and used to restore any previous history 'restore point'. Simply restart XP in Safe (tap F8 Key) and then when the Windows Desktop comes up

** Many of the latest Fake Anti-Viruses, Scareware and Ransomware are actually infections themselves! They are designed to cripple your Antivirus program, and damage your ability to get to the internet, except to send them money! If you send money, you won't get any fix for your problem. Remember, they are crooks!

These steps don't always work, because they have damaged your copy of windows.

    You have to Gain Control

    Try going to Safe mode

On the Safe Mode menu, select Safe Mode with Networking

Once there, your objective is to load and copy MBAM(Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware). To do this , I've had to copy MBAM to a flash drive from an uninfected computer, then copy it to the infected computer.

Follow the instructions from MBAM. In some cases, I've seen that MBAM will not run, because the Bad Guys have prevented it from running. I use stand alone Linux bootable software to clean the computer. Even thast doesn't always work. Now I know that it's Format/Reload time.
