Everyone knows who Google is. If you didn't, you wouldn't be reading this! Google's latest attempt to create a social network that rivals Facebook, is Google Plus (Google +) Google launched Google+ on June 28, 2011 with a private beta.

The social network is a collection of Stream (a newsfeed), Sparks (a recommendation tool), Hangouts (a video chat), Huddle ( group texting), Circles ( friend tool) and Photos.

Google chose the name Google+ because it wants Google+ to be “an extension of Google itself.”

How successful will Google Plus be? So far, it has had rapid growth, and is getting mixed reviews. But, they have a lot to learn, as Facebook has been around for awhile, and is extremely popular. I think, that their powerful position, and having YouTube in their inventory, and Google's various other features will make them a contender. My concern is that they are the 800 pound gorilla, and it could get messy! With Google's funding, they should stick with it for the long haul, so I expect they will provide an excellent service over time.

I think reviews are helpful, but at this early stage, I would think it prudent to do a little more wait and see. I personally think Google can get it right over time.
