Drivers-Windows
Drivers-Windows installation is not normally done by computer novices! It is way too easy to really screw up a computer. But, sometimes you really have no alternative. Either you install/update the driver, or you have to pay a computer technician!
Note: Windows 7 has a lot more drivers on the Microsoft Install DVD, than Windows XP did, so this will make reinstalling Windows 7 easier.
Here is the website from Microsoft on drivers: Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly
Driver Sources:
Dell: Dell Support - Drivers
I've used this site for years. You will have a sticker on your computer that has your service tag. Using that is the easiest way to find your drivers. Usually, the first driver on the list, is the most common, try that first. If the driver doesn't match your computer, you will usually get a note to that effect. Patience and luck is required to get the right driver installed and running!
HP: HP Support & Drivers
HP requires that you know your computer type and model. This is usually found somewhere on the computer, but not always easy! You can also find this information on your invoice that you filed away somewhere! Lastly, you might have stored a copy of the Belarc printout!
Other Manufacturers:
There are hundreds of manufactures, so go to Google, and search for the company's website. Try to avoid names that are almost the same! There are so many websites, trying to trick you into buying their product! There are a lot of ripoff artists out there!
