Digital-Camera
Why would I want to buy a Digital-Camera?

The advantage of a digital photography is that it stores images digitally rather than recording them on film. Instead of the old 24 or 36 shots in film cameras, you can take hundreds, all stored in the memory of your camera.
The big advantage of a digital-camera is that making photos is both inexpensive and fast because there is no film processing. Interestingly, one of the biggest boosters of digital photography is Kodak, the largest producer of film. Kodak developed the Kodak PhotoCD format, which has become the de facto standard for storing digital photographs.

Can e-mail digital pictures

All e-mail programs, Windows Outlook or the popular Firefox that you can download from the Internet, make it easy to attach photos to an e-mail when you want to share one or more photos with friends and family. While you are writing an e-mail, and you decide to share photos, you only need to look at the icons usually run along the length of the screen, and you will notice one called “attachment” and often uses the symbol of a ‘paper clip’ to denote the term. You click on this icon and then you are next asked where you want to go to find this attachment. Attachments can be anything found in your files, on your desktop, etc., but if you want to send a picture you just saved in your ‘picture’ file, you click however necessary to get to where the photo is stored.

You can edit pictures on computer (Remove "red-eye", lighten or darken, if needed, etc)
Once pictures have been taken, it can be downloaded to a computer system and then manipulated with a graphics program and printed. Unlike film photographs, which have an almost infinite resolution, digital photos are limited by the amount of memory in the camera, the optical resolution of the digitizing mechanism, and, finally, by the resolution of the final output device, usually a printer.
Once stored, you can use software to crop your photos, remove red-eye, adjust contrast, brightness and more, to improve the quality of the picture, how and what you are trying to capture and the quality of the image itself. This self-editing of photos greatly enhances the artistry of the photo, if so desired or necessary.

Digital-Camera can hold thousands of pictures, without buying film
With
digital photography, you can store as many pictures, as the camera memory can hold. A standard camera may hold up to 100 pictures, and you can upgrade memory to hold hundreds or more! I just added a memory chip to my digital, and now it holds over 2000 pictures!
Inexpensive Point & Shoot digital-cameras start for under $ 50. They will have some features that are better than a cell phone, usually. Such as some telephoto capability, or lighting enhancements, such as flash, etc. I have a modest cost Digital (Point & Shoot). It is small, lightweight, and a decent range of adjustments for telephot, lighting, movies etc. My wife prefers point and shoot. But now, I'm in the market for a good quality SLR, and hope to have one soon!

11/22/11 Update:
Currently we have two digital cameras and 2 cell phones. Each Cell phone is a pretty decent camera, and is always available! We have A Nikon Coolpix camera, that does an excellent job, but is a little large. When we are serious about good pictures, we carry this. We also have our old "point and shoot Canon", which we have with us a lot, because it is small, and takes some pretty good pictures. Both cameras have telephoto lenses, but the Nikon Coolpix is far superior! My wife and I took photography classes at Ritz camera, and this has made a big difference in our pictures! Norm
