Default-Program

aka File Associations - Can't open file (image)

Default Programs (File Associations) are used to determine which program you want to use to open particular file types. Windows has a default setup for most commonly used file types, but you may wish to change these (defaults). A typical example might be that you want to use a particular photo editor to open pictures (jpg), rather than the Microsoft picture viewer. Fairly often, when you can't open a file(type), it is associated with the wrong program.

Windows 7 (and Vista)

click on Windows Start Button - lower left corner of your desktop

Windows 7 Start Button

You will get the next screen...........

Windows 7 Control Panel

after you selected Control Panel, you'll get.........

Windows 7 Control Panel - results

Click on Default Programs

Windows 7 Default-Programs

I normally choose Associate a File Type or Protocol with a Program

Windows 7 Default Programs - File Assoc

In the above image, you can see that I have already changed my computer to use Windows Live Gallery , but now I could change the association to Paint, or Photoshop or any other picture viewer (editor) that I have installed.
